See how he goes, lightly
Among the golden shades of fallen autumn leaves
Seeking out the meaning of his soul, the wonder of all that we can know through the marrow of this fleeting, human, being
See how he goes, with words like wandering stars tracing graceful tangents and ellipses
Finding poetry in late night conversations overheard in bars, red wine and stolen kisses… there’s so much to leave behind when you’ve got the kind of mind that doesn’t miss a thing
It looks like it might just be one of those old got no money so it’s cold toast, and vegemite and honey days
And maybe some black tea, and somewhere here there’s the last of the whiskey-you never could say no to a glass or three.
But I won’t forget what you did for me, when you said in troubled times you need to set free your heart and still your mind, and see.
The heart’s precious melodies and cadences live on in your memory
And the beauty of your song is eclipsed only by the light of your humanity, your smiling eyes still sing to me
See how you go, shining brightly
